Below are my so-called "POLAROIDS" - sorted by year.

"Polaroids", because I do them on the spot, in an instant, I am the camera, the filter, the lens, but have more flexibility than a camera. I can edit the reality by adding or eliminating information from the scene, I can draw parallels. I can choose to record different “slices” of reality, I can work with text and ideas.

It is immensely rewarding to limit myself - in a world with an abundance of technical possibilities - to a very restricted format. The "Polaroids" must always be drawn with a blue ball point pen, using the same size heavy drawing paper (10.4 x 7.4 cm / 4.1 x 2.9 inches).

"GA" stands for "Geschlossene Augen", "closed eyes", meaning that this particular "Polaroid" was drawn NOT looking at it (e.g. while talking to someone, while watching TV or during night). Often the word "BAB" ("BundesAutoBahn") shows up in conjunction with "GA", meaning that the "Polaroid" was drawn while driving on the autobahn.

Each drawing is marked with the date and location where it was created. They can be grouped by theme, chronologically or both. I carry always my “camera” (paper and blue ball point pen) in my wallet, whenever and wherever I go.

The "Polaroids” contain my artistic universe; I have been doing these for over 25 years now, and I have thousands of them. They are a graphic history of my daily experience as well as an art diary that contains seeds of my other work as well as being a piece of art in its own right.

PLEASE contact me if you have some of my POLAROIDS or if you know of someone who has, so I can include them in my archive.
